For Labor Day weekend, we went on two hiking adventures -- one up in Rock Cut State Park and the other down at Starved Rock State Park. Both were fun, though Starved Rock is certainly the prettier setting (Rock Cut was much less crowded though, even with the cross country race going on!). Lorelei hung in there pretty well for the most part -- it got really, really hot at Starved Rock so we were all sweaty and tired at the end of the day.
We're pretty sure this is a tail feather from a red-tailed hawk -- we saw it being chased by a bunch of angry crows at one point and then later found this near the path. If Lorelei were a little older and were collecting treasures from the hike, this would certainly have been the best prize of the day!
